Blueprint Osteopathy

For your body to be at its best, it needs to be free of dysfunction and working in harmony.

At Blueprint Osteopathy we have an approach that considers your mind, body and lifestyle, not just the site of pain.

We look at the body as a whole, we are trained to trace symptoms back to their point of origin, often unveiling that the pain is stemming from elsewhere in the body.

For example, niggling knee pain may stem from an issue in the knee, but we also check and consider the ankle, misaligned hips, tight muscles or a strained ligament in the lower back.  In this scenario, we treat the cause of the pain, i.e. the ankle, hips, ligaments, muscles or vertebrae - as opposed to treating the localised area around the knee.

Once the root of the problem has been diagnosed, we use a variety of hands-on approaches to improve the bodies structure and function. Techniques can be used such as soft tissue manipulation, stretching, myofascial release and joint mobilisation/manipulation.

Techniques can also be used to help the body correct itself.  These approaches can be extremely gentle as the Osteopath encourages the natural functions of the body, utilising breathing and improving circulation and nerve health.

My first introduction to osteopathy was following a motor vehicle accident which left me with severe whiplash. In an attempt to alleviate my pain, I visited several manual practitioners of different modalities, and was most impressed with the approach and outcome of the Osteopathic care I received. Over time, I also gained relief from headaches, lower back pain and shoulder pain. Each treatment plan was very successful and allowed me to resume my daily activities with minimal delay.

I was so pleased and interested with the osteopathic care I had received that I proceeded to participate as a 'student for a day' on the osteopath course offered through Unitec. From then on, I was hooked, and ventured on to complete Unitec's 'Master of Osteopathy' degree in 2014.

Now, as a registered and practicing Osteopath, I enjoy treating a wide variety of patients with particular interest in breathing, physical performance and athletes. I do my utmost to maintain a holistic approach which involves assessing biomechanical structure and function, exploring contributing lifestyle factors, and learning about personal health beliefs related to the presenting complaint. The information gained can then be tied together into a treatment and management plan tailored to the individuals needs.

In my spare time I am likely to be outdoors or with family and friends, whom I value highly. Historically, I have been heavily involved in martial arts, both as a coach and competitor, as well as rugby, volleyball, and currently am an active freediving instructor. I also enjoy surfing and fishing which stems from my love of the ocean.

After practicing in two amazing clinics over a seven-year span, my colleague and I are excited to expand Blueprint Osteo in Whangarei. Everyone is welcome and we look forward to meeting you.

Through my own experiences of Migraines, Accidents (mostly minor, one major in 1996 a Milk Tanker collision, I suffered extensive injuries and neurological issues) and 3 Pregnancies, I realised how much Osteopathic Treatments helped to accelerate my recovery and strengthen my belief in Osteopathy. Osteopathy offers structural alignment, pain relief, physical balance and enhances the body’s innate ability to heal itself, and reinstate harmony and good health. This inspired me to become an Osteopath.

Osteopathy is and has always been my passion. After 18 years in Auckland, owning my own business in Greenlane and lucky enough to be trained by several exceptional Osteopaths, including Ben Evans, I have decided to returned to my home town Whangarei to establish a new clinic, Blueprint Osteo. Some will already know me from Rathbone Clinic where I spent valuable hours observing Ben’s talented work, others will have received treatment during my recent employment at Rathbone Clinic or at my previous clinic in Greenlane.

With no age limits, I have treated babies to 94 years old covering all aspects from Head to Toe. Selecting appropriate techniques form Cranial, Myofascial, Muscle Energy Techniques or Structural with careful consideration to individual needs.

I am passionate about what I do and enjoy helping in the recovery of patients. I believe it works and have great gratitude and satisfaction helping others to become pain free. Osteopathy is a challenging and rewarding profession……. I love it, come see me you may love it too!
